She was predeceased by: her husband Marvin Lane Brown Sr.; her parents, Rev. George Lemuel Carnes and Edna Kirk Carnes; and her siblings, Francis Carnes Bruce and George C. Carnes.

She is survived by: her sister Martha Carnes Smith; her children, Marvin Lane Brown Jr. (Lavinia Lindley Brown) and Sara Jeanne Brown; her grandchildren, Ruth Brown Mathis, H. Luke Mayes IV (Laura Slicker Mayes) and Amy Brown Holcomb (Jake Holcomb); and her great grandchildren, Carnes Lindley Mathis, Davis Lane Mathis, Lindley Faye Holcomb, Eli Lucas Mayes and Maxwell Jagger Mayes. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
