It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Doris Loraine Engelbrecht Black of Columbus, Georgia, who passed away on May 15, 2026, at the age of 94, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Henry Engelbrecht and Alma Landfried Engelbrecht; her husband Thomas Bentley Black of Knoxville, Tenn.; and her grandson Nate Watson. She is survived by: her daughters, Kathy Stewart (Jimmy) of Greenville, S. C., Cindy Sparks (Jay) of Columbus, Gina Watson (Nathan) of Macon and Mary Little (Walter) of Birmingham, Ala.; her grandchildren, Emily Sparks Palmore (Justin), Jenny Watson Barfield (Carter), Bentley Sparks (Mary), Kate Stewart Fogleman (Scott), Meg Stewart, Thomas Watson (Olivia), Mary Nelson Little, Grant Little and Harrison Little; her great grandchildren, Will, Bentley, Whitten Palmore, Hannah, Sarah James, Noah Barfield, Caroline, Aubrey Sparks, Gracie Fogleman, Thatcher and Parker Watson; and her caregivers, Tracy Ellis, Beverly Ford and Barbara Hughes.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 21st 2026 at 3:00 PM at the Church's Fellowship Hall (212 12th St, Columbus, GA 31901).
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Columbus, Mercer University School of Medicine, Columbus Campus, or Columbus Hospice.
