He was predeceased by: his father Henry Smith; his son James Smith, Jr.; and his brother Clarence Smith. He is survived by: his wife Linda Smith of Columbus, GA; his daughter Michele Garver (Tim) of Columbus, GA; his grandsons, Josh Garver of Phenix City, AL and Wyatt Garver (Taylor) of Jacksonville, NC; his great grandchildren, Anniston Garver and Emma Battley; and his sister Dollie Kent (Mary John Stephens) of Waxahachie, TX. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
