It is with great sadness that we announce the death of William Benson Smith DVM of Columbus, Georgia, who passed away on July 21, 2025, at the age of 83, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, James Marshall Smith and Carolyn Benson Smith; his brother Dr. John Robert Smith; and his grandson Russell Cooper Smith. He is survived by: his wife Linda Bone Smith; his children, Edward "Ed" Smith and Shylon Smith; his children-in-law, Melanie Smith and Karim Ahmed; his sister Beth Smith Callaway; and his grandchildren, Mariam, Zaid, Yusuf Arida, Benson and Bethany Smith.
A graveside service was held on Friday, July 25th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Fort Mitchell National Cemetery (553 AL-165, Fort Mitchell, AL 36856).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Bill to the St. Thomas Episcopal Church "Youth.".
