He was predeceased by : his parents, James Ralph Smith, Jr. and Laura Lee Laird; and his siblings, Butch Steele and Sara Gail Clack. He is survived by : his wife Julie; his children, Laura Smith of Comer, Christina Smith, Patrick Bennett of Comer and David Glenn Smith; his grandchildren, Braylon Bennett, Victoria Bennett and Ryleigh Bennett; and his brothers, Johnny Steele, Michael Steele and Donald Leroy Smith.

A memorial service was held on Friday, April 12th 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Comer Baptist Church (2054 Main St, Comer, GA 30629).
