We announce the death of Catherine Laveina Sutherland of Commerce, Georgia, who passed away on September 7, 2026, at the age of 90. Catherine will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. She was predeceased by: her parents, Martin W. Korbe and Clara M. Korbe (Andres); her husband Ernest Eugene Sutherland of New Albany, IN; and her sister Mary Kirchgessner (Korbe) of Floyds Knobs, IN.. She is survived by: her daughter Connie; her son-in-law Dean Ward of Commerce, GA; her daughter Norma Bobbitt of San Diego, CA; her sister Martha Gesenhues (Korbe) of New Albany, IN; and her granddaughter Michelle Bailey (Steve) of Hull, Georgia. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 18th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Kraft Funeral Service (708 E Spring St, New Albany, IN 47150). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the same location. An entombment will be held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 at the Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park (2778 Charlestown Rd, New Albany, IN 47150).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Catherine's memory to the New Albany Animal Shelter on 215 W. Market St., EthanAlmighty's Blessings (https://ethanalmighty.com.), the American Cancer Society (http://www.cancer.org.), the American Heart Association (http://www.heart.org.), or any charity of your choosing.
