He was predeceased by: his parents, Thurman Benson and Thelma Gibbs Benson; his daughter Renee Benson Story; and his siblings, Thurman Benson, Jr. and Ramona Dominey.
He is survived by: his wife Sara Benson; his sisters, Emily Wise, Shirley Miller, Judy Tripp (Joe) and Sharon Martin (Noel); his sisters-in-law, Cheri Butterworth and Dana Holliday (Keith); and his friends, Jon Huffmaster, T. E. Moye, Willie Shiloh, Leroy Thomas and Randy Powell. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
