He is survived by: his wife Penny Runels of Unadilla, Georgia; his children, David Lee Runels (Megan) of Cordele, Jessica Leanne Runels of Unadilla, Stephanie Ann Johnson (Clay) of Cordele, Michael David Runels, Jr. of Unadilla and Sara Belle Gilliam (Austin) of Cobb; his mother Barbara Hood of Eastman; his siblings, Gayle Crawley of Cordele, Kay Hurt of Eastman, Elaine Barrett of Coalmont and Sue Dunn of Chester, Georgia.; and his grandchildren, Nicolas, Landon, Londyn, Linkon, Zayne, Lawson, Conner, Jared and Caroline.
