He was predeceased by: his sons-in-law, Marvin Fletcher and Bobby Frank Halstead, Jr.; his parents, James Samuel Carter, Sr. and Lizzie Belle Youmans Carter; his siblings, Carl Carter, Lawrence Carter, Roy Carter, James Samuel Carter, Jr., Ray Carter, Jack Carter, Eloise Dees, Maymie Jo Williams, Sarah Flanders and Sue Dixon; and his grandfather Carter (Christmases).
He is survived by: his wife Lavonia Duckworth Carter; his children, Larry Carter (Connie), Janet Fletcher (Marvin), Lynn Halstead (Bob) and Susan Dierx (Martin); his grandchildren, Babs Baldwin (Matt), Caleb Halstead (Courtney), Wesley Carter, Saralynn Bryan (Micheal), Hannah Casto (Chris), Elijah Dierx (Hannah), Ellie Alexander (John) and Leah Hinton (Zack); his great grandchildren, Nathan Baldwin (Maddie), Jeremy Baldwin, Emma Baldwin, Ava Baldwin, Micah Kenneth Baldwin, Ethan Baldwin, Ruth Baldwin, John David Casto, Trace Bryan, Isaac Casto, Ember Halstead, Audrey Hinton, Zane Bryan and Carter Alexander; and his brother Harry Carter.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering either through your local Baptist church or through the North American Mission Board.
