He was predeceased by: his parents, Vincent Shurtleff and Sibyl Bright Shurtleff; his former wife Kathlynn Raymond Shurtleff; his stepson Christopher Williams; and his sister Jane Ann Patterson.
He is survived by: his wife Sara Williams Shurtleff of Cornelia; his sons, Patrick (Lisa Shurtleff), Clint (Melanie Shurtleff) and Michael (Christy Shurtleff); his stepson John Williams of Albers, IL; his sister Melanie Kolben of St Petersburg, FL; and his caregiver Tonya Kuipers. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
