He was predeceased by: his parents, Cary Sims and Pearlie Sims; his wife Mildred Lee Sims (Belcher); and his son Herman Cobb Jr.. He is survived by: his children, Tammy Sims-Palomino and Lanier Sims (Bionca); his grandchildren, E'Toyus Daniels (Chris), A. J. Palomino, Preston Sims and Chase Sims; his great grandchildren, Christopher Daniels and Karter Daniels; his son Leon Sims; his grandson Keith Davis; and his great grandchildren, Rhyan Davis and Christian Davis. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and friends.
In February 2025, the Georgia State Senate passed Senate Resolution 300, commending the Sims family for their lasting contributions to Newton County and beyond — a fitting recognition of a family whose roots run deep and whose legacy will endure for generations.
