He was predeceased by : his parents, Alvin Rutledge and Velma Bush Rutledge; his children, Tammy McLaughlin and Timothy Rutledge; and his brother Charles Rutledge.

He is survived by : his wife Esther K. Rutledge; his children, Ivy Ingram, Ron Drake, Bill Drake and J. C. Cunningham; his grandchildren, Timmy Rutledge, J. C. McLaughlin, Kimberly Pollett, Dylan and Eli Ingram; and his sister Alma Jean Digby. He is also survived by numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews.
