With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Ernest Abernathy Jr. (Cumming, Georgia), who passed away on January 8, 2026 at the age of 92. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Abernathy and Mary Florence Abernathy; and his brother Terrell "Ted" Abernathy. He is survived by: his sons, Scott Abernathy (Bonnie), Jeff Abernathy (Laura) and Ernest Abernathy III; his stepchildren, Shelby Stone and Scott Sherard; his grandchildren, Jarrod, Lauren Abernathy, Ava, William Stone, Madison, Joshua and Reagan Sherard; his brother Russell Abernathy (Chryl); his nieces and nephews, Shana, Mandy, Lynda, Terrell and Tim; and his close friend Barbara Keirn.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor Dr. Abernathy's memory to consider a donation to a meaningful charity of their choice that supports medical research.
