He was predeceased by: his parents, Johnnie Lee and Sidney D. Arant; and his brother Sidney D. Arant, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Marilyn; his children, Virginia Arant Sternberg (Peter), Suzanne Arant Wells, John Arant, Jr. (Kim) and Trina Arant Morris (Jeff); his stepchildren, Karmen Howlin Brown (Rick), Kyle Howlin (Nikia) and Kurt Howlin (Stacy); and his nieces, Alice Arant Cousins, Janet Arant Malcomb and Sandra Lee Arant. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, several great grandchildren.
