He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Franklin and Sarah Rebecca Hardy; and his siblings, Jackie Peacock, Nora Nell Burton, Catherine Bowermann, Nancy Searcy, Frank Hardy and Jimmy Hardy.
He is survived by: his wife Frances Hamrick Hardy; his children, John, Jr., June Hardy, Sandra, Edward Giddings of Kalamazoo, MI, Frank and Lauren Hardy; and his grandchildren, Jeremy Stuckey, Kenneth Stuckey, Sophie Hardy, Emma Hardy, Ellie Sue Hamrick, Emily Hamrick and Jesse Giddings. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews.
