He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Martha Schabel and Robert Schabel; his wife Eileen "Bean" Schabel; his daughter Katie; his son-in-law Matt Day; his grandchildren, Ellis, Flora and Imogene Day; his daughter Jaclyn; his son-in-law Matt Stewart; his grandson Stewart; his daughter Kelly Schabel; his daughter-in-law Katie Heffelfinger; and his uncles, Bill, Bilbo, Billy Bob and Billy Plu. He was also cherished by his siblings, nieces and nephews, and large extended family.

In lieu of flowers, his family asks for donations to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta or The Place of Cumming.
