He was predeceased by: his parents, Lewis Young Grindle and Pauline J. Edge Grindle; and his siblings, Louis Young "L. Y." Grindle, Eugene Grindle and Imogene Wilson.
He is survived by: his sister Estelle Whitley; his brother-in-law Andrew J. Jr. Fields (Marsha); his sons, Walter Grindle (Patricia) and Phillip Grindle (Dawn); and his grandchildren, Austin, Coleman, Logan, Lila, Lydia and Lena Grindle. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
