He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Curtis and Annie Curtis; his siblings, Annabelle Redding and Dr. Charles Curtis; and his son Dr. Jeffery Van Curtis.

He is survived by: his wife Shirley Ann McKibben Curtis; his daughters, Kimberly Swan (Ted Swann), Kristy Mitchell (Carlos Mitchell) and Karen Lynn Curtis of Dallas, Georgia.; his grandchildren, Dreama Black (Jonathan Black), Robert Mitchell, Julia Mitchell Leeds (Michael Leeds), Dr. Alec Curtis (Marenda Curtis) and Olivia Curtis; and his great grandchildren, Ted Black (Sophie Black), Kimberlyn Black, Annaliese Black and Adrian Van Lane.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations are made in Buddy's honor to their beloved church, Roswell Street Baptist Church.
