He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Virgil and Anna Louise Jenkins Tankersley; his siblings, Billy G. Tankersley, Leroy Tankersley, Bobby Joe Tankersley, Charlotte Faye Culberson (Jack) and Patricia Ann Hooker; and his siblings-in-law, Jessie Butler, Tommy Butler, Bernice Boker and Ruby Saylor.
He is survived by: his wife Bertie Butler Tankersley of Dooley's Chapel Church; his children, Deidria Tankersley of Knoxville, Tennessee, Matt Tankersley (Katie Mathis) and Jackie Lynn Tankersley, Jr.; his grandson Tucker Lynn Tankersley; his sister Barbara Tankersley of Dalton, Georgia; and his siblings-in-law, Barbara Tankersley of Dalton, Ernest Hooker of Florida, Alonza of Knoxville, Charlene Butler of Knoxville, Pearl Dyer of Knoxville, Betty of Knoxville, Rev. Herman Epperson of Knoxville, Toni Butler of Knoxville, Rev. Herbie, Tina Butler of Rock Hill, Clara and Gene Scalf of Dalton, Georgia. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Visitation was held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Sunday, September 27th 2026 at 11:00 AM. A celebration of life was held on Sunday, September 27th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the Church of God of the Union Assembly (2211 S Dixie Hwy, Dalton, GA 30720).
