He was predeceased by: his mother Ivie Ollie Burns Wheat; his wife Louise Broom Wheat; and his brothers, Ralph Wheat (Dot), Randall Wheat and Richard Wheat (Irene).
He is survived by: his father Willard Frank; his children, Elaine (Brent Watkins) and Doug (Lynne Wheat); his grandchildren, Calvin Wheat of Chatsworth, GA, Jennifer Watkins (Kris Davidson) of Dalton, GA and Jessica Watkins of Arlington, VA; his great grandchildren, Ivan Wheat (Mollie) of Ringgold, GA, Evan Wheat of Chatsworth, GA and Michael Watkins of Dalton, GA; and his sisters, Sue (George Morrison), JoAnn (Jimmy Teasley) and Darlene Pritchard. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 22nd 2026 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Wednesday, September 23rd 2026 at 10:00 AM. A celebration of life was held on Wednesday, September 23rd 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Ponders Melrose Chapel (138 Melrose Dr, Dalton, GA 30721).
