Matthew Perdue, Jr. affectionately known as "Pawpaw, Sonny, Pops, Purdy and Produce", peacefully departed this earthly realm on April 27, 2024, at the Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, Georgia at the age of 80 years old. Born on September 14, 1943, in Jonesboro, Georgia, he was the first child of the late Matthew Perdue, Sr. and the late Ruby Lee Perdue.

He attended Summer Hill High School in Cartersville and graduated with the Class of 1963. Very soon after graduation, Matthew left for the United States Air Force and served two tours of duty in Vietnam as an Aircraft Mechanic. He received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal and was Honorably discharged on May 28, 1967. After serving his country, he returned home ad worked as the first black police officer for the Cartersville Police Department for many years. Later, he was briefly employed by the East Point Police Department. His final career move before retiring was to work as a Detective for Norfolk Southern for 23 years.

In the early years of his life, he attended and received his religious training and knowledge of God's Word at Faith Temple Church Of God In Christ on Redcomb Drive.

Matthew was a selfless person, preferring to do for others rather than for himself. He loved his family and would take in anyone needing a place to live. Many people were in and out of his doors. He was very laid-back, yet spunky at times. He loved to watch police shows, military shows and sports. He was a staunch fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide Football Team.

He was the father of Warren Perdue, Keithan Perdue (Angela) of Dallas, Texas; Terra Al-Khalib (Talib) of Columbia, SC; Mark Perdue, Sr. (Misty) of Dalton, Georgia; Kevin Jones (LeSharn) of Florida; and Keith Jones; grandchildren, Jackie Perdue, John'Kaden Shellnut, Kelyse Perdue, Klyn Perdue, Keiarah Perdue, Keithan, Jr., Destine' Jackson, Alexis Ware, Mark Perdue, Jr., (Kinleigh), Markeysia Perdue, Gabriel Perdue, Marshenique Perdue, Anesiah Renique, along with his 20 great0grandchildren were his pride and joy.

He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish precious memories; sister, Ruby Morgan (James); brothers, Chris Darby (Julie) and Corri Darby, all of Cartersville, Georgia; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
