He was predeceased by: his parents, Roland Paul Martin and Catherine May Martin; and his wife Sandra "Sandy" Carlson Martin. He is survived by: his daughters, Jennifer Phinney (Wes) and Heather Burton (Billy); his grandchildren, Emeline Phinney (Erich Watson), Margaret Phinney (Sabino Herrera), Katherine Southerland (Bryce) and Sydney Holloway (Hunter Ford); his great grandchild Harper Jane Southerland; his siblings, Jerry Martin and Diane Frey; and his brother-in-law William Carlson (Pamela).

In lieu of flowers, Rick's family humbly asks that donations be made in his memory to either St. Mark's Episcopal Church (901 W Emery St, Dalton GA 30720) or to the Artistic Civic Theatre (907 Gaston St, Dalton GA 30720).
