He was predeceased by : his parents, Ralph Mathews and Carolyn Mathews; his son Christopher Mathews; and his brother Johnny Mathews. He is survived by : his wife Sharon Mathews; his daughter Heather Mathews (Elizabeth Balderas); his stepchildren, Dewayne, Michelle and Kelli; and his brothers, Wesley Mathews (Shellie) and Paul Mathews. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles.
