He was predeceased by: his parents, Gerald Carroll and Elizabeth Carroll; his brother Patrick Carroll; and his grandparents, Patrick, Sarah Carroll, Edward and Gertrude Shelly.
He is survived by: his husband Danny Smith; his sister Michelle Babb (Steve); his nephew Douglas Babb; his niece Ellen Babb; Gerald Smith. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 15th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home & Crematory (2773 N Decatur Rd, Decatur, GA 30033). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 16th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the St. John's Lutheran Church (1410 Ponce De Leon Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30307). A reception will be held on Friday, October 16th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers: The family asks that gifts be made to the Dr. Marietta Monaghan Endowed Travel Scholarship at Kennesaw State University, which helps architecture students travel to study, as so many of Michael's students did with him.
