She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Carl George and Mildred Magdalena Berling (Ries); her husband Tom; her children, Brooke Elizabeth Harris (Gurley) and Thomas Christopher Gurley; and her grandchildren, Catherine Elizabeth Harris (Atlanta) and Thomas Kimsey Harris (Abby Robinson Harris).
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 30th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church (1722 Oak Grove Rd, Decatur, GA 30033).
In lieu of flowers, it was Shirley's wish that contributions be made to the Christopher Gurley Fund in the Georgia Tech Foundation. Contributions may also be made to the Traditional Music Program at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
