He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Dowdy and Marjorie NeSmith Dowdy. He is survived by: his wife Clara Taylor Dowdy of Douglas, Georgia; and his sisters, Brenda Grobski of Tacoma and Pat Browning of Douglas, Georgia. He is also survived by nieces, nephews.
