He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Joe and Eula Mae Helms; and his siblings, Patricia "Pat" Boudreau, Tony Jerome Helms and David Wayne Helms.
He is survived by: his wife Martha Helms; his son Michael Helms, Jr. (Sarah); his stepchildren, Tammy Hagans (John), Walter Smith (Shelby) and Robert Smith (Janey); and his sister Debbie Purvis. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
