He is survived by: his wife Miriam Elaine Hawkins; his children, Joseph Edmond Hawkins Jr. (Marianne) and Joelle Hawkins Teague (Glen); his brother Jerry P. Hawkins (Margo); his grandchildren, Jordan Hawkins Tiller (Steven), Haylee Hawkins Price (Brandon), Rachel Hawkins, Kaitlyn Teague and Lainey Teague; and his great grandchildren, Charlotte Tiller and Scottie Price.

In lieu of flowers the family requested donations to Putnam General Hospital Foundation, 101 Lake Oconee Parkway, Eatonton, GA.
