He was predeceased by: his parents, John Richard Macher Sr. and Louise Coyle Macher; and his wife Susan Crawley Macher. He is survived by: his sisters, Marie M. Dotson (Gene) of Savannah and Debra M. Moesch of Savannah; and his nieces and nephews, Joseph E. Dotson, III, Dean V. Moesch, Jr., Matthew M. Dotson, Jennifer M. Collins, John R. Moesch and Katherine D. Toraya. He is also survived by several grand nephews, nieces, and cousins.

In lieu of flower, the family has requested memorial donations to be made to the Blessed Sacrament Church of Savannah.
