He was predeceased by: his mother Red Carter; his brother Edward Carter; and his nephew James "Eddie" Carter, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Gail Carter; his sons, David Carter and Joshua Carter (Monique); his stepsons, Darrell Monroe (Amanda) and Steven Monroe (Christina); and his sisters, Carolyn Forkner of Fayette and Linda Taylor of Garden City, Georgia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on Monday, August 31st 2026 at 3:00 PM at the Chapel of the Funeral Home.
