We are sad to announce that on July 7, 2025, at the age of 28, Matthew Lee Israel of Ellijay, Georgia passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his mother Catharine Mary Anderson; and his grandfather David Lauer Mooney. He is survived by: his father Michael Lee Israel of Ellijay; his siblings, Christian Mary Johnson (Joseph Steven Johnson) of Ellijay, Chelsie Lynn Mize (Kyle Patrick Mize) of Ringgold, James Edgar Tucker (Jamie), Cheyenne Mathews, Isaac Roberson, Kyle Roberson and Mitchell Lane Israel; his grandparents, James A. Israel Jr. and Georgia Elaine Israel of Locust Grove; and also, Catharine Mary Anderson of Stockbridge, James Walker Anderson and Susan Mary Mooney of Ellijay.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 29th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Bernhardt Funeral Home (163 River St, Ellijay, GA 30540). A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, July 29th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home (163 River St, Ellijay, GA 30540). The inurnment will be held on Tuesday, July 29th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Georgia National Cemetery (Veterans Cemetery Rd, Georgia 30114).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Gilmer Veterans Memorial Committee, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), or your local American Legion in Matthew's honor.
