He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Mathis and Rebecca Flanders Mathis. He is survived by: his sons, Marty Mathis (April) of Moultrie, Mike Mathis (Tricia) of Lexington, Andy Mathis of Elberton and Steven Mathis (Margo) of Nashville; his grandchildren, Will (Maddie), Bryce, Ben, Mitchell (Mara), Retta, Mattie Mae and Rowan; his great grandchildren, Iris and Alexander; and his sister Eloise Kelly (Lewis) of Screven. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Georgia Sherriff's Boys Ranch at 5671 Boys Ranch Rd. Hahira, Ga 31632.
