He was predeceased by : his wife Karen Mettler Hayes; his parents, Marianna Flynn and Malachi Eugene Hayes; and his siblings, Mary Patricia Hayes and Malachi Eugene Hayes Jr..

He is survived by : his son Andrew Mettler Hayes Ph; his grandchild Quinn Aladist Hayes of Littleton Co; his son Jeffrey Edwin Hayes of Augusta, GA; his grandson Gavin Malachi Hayes of Wilmington, NC; and his brother Dr. David F. Hayes (Kathleen) of Orchard Park, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lydia Project, 1369 Interstate Parkway, Augusta, GA 30909.
