He was predeceased by: his wife Norma Jean Saunders; his parents, Charles Wilomel Saunders and Ida Clarice Saunders (Duke); and his siblings, Flora Wilomel Saunders (Williams), Eloise Saunders (Tallent), Eileen Saunders (Greene), Joseph Lamar Saunders and Frank Webster Saunders.

He is survived by: his children, Dennis Kirk Saunders (Linda), Cindy Kay Wood (David), Donna Jean Saunders (Todd Gilmore) and Sherrie Jayne Phillips (Lawrence); his grandchildren, Caleb Lee Saunders (Jessica), Kelsey Lynn Kreisch, Mackenzie Jackson Phillips (Taylor) and Dustin Jacob Phillips; his great grandchildren, Avery Brooke, Raelynn Faith and Laken Cade Saunders; and his brother-in-law Lonnie Byler.
