He was predeceased by: his parents, Rex Minor and Willie Byrd Mason; and his brother Calvin Mason. He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Marchman Mason; his children, Connie Champion (Sammy) and Jonathan Rex Mason (Betty); his grandchildren, Nicole Douglas, Jason Champion and Makenzie Mason; and his great grandchildren, Easton, Aly Douglas and Ryder Champion. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
