He was predeceased by: his parents, Dorothea Obear (Woods) and William Fred Obear; and his former wife Patricia Obear (Draper). He is survived by: his wife Ruth; his children, Jeffrey Obear (Michaelle), Deborah Evans (Douglas) and James Obear (Angela); his grandchildren, Mariah Marino (Obear), Josh Obear, Aubrey Harris (Evans), Alyssa Evans, Christopher Obear, Patrick Obear and Catherine Obear; and his great grandchildren, Ada Jane Harris, Dex Harris and Miles Obear.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks friends and family to consider supporting the Patricia Obear Endowed Professorship at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
