With heavy hearts, we announce the death of John Lee Owensby (Gillsville, Georgia), who passed away on February 12, 2026 at the age of 82. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Owenby and Cordie Baker Owenby; and his siblings, Wendell Owenby and Donna Wingo. He is survived by: his significant other Willie Jean Harris Owensby; his children, Randall Owensby and Kim Mathis of Gillsville; his grandchildren, Morgan Williams (Michael), Amber Danner (Jonathan), Hunter Mathis (Bailey), Aubrey Owensby and Carter Mathis; his great grandchildren, Adam Williams, Charlie Williams, Parker Williams, Garrett Williams, Ramsey Danner, Oakley Danner, Case Mathis and Baylor Mathis; and his sister Pearline Vogh (Warren) of Cleveland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gillsville Baptist Church or Gillsville Cemetery.
