She was predeceased by: her parents, Homer Elisha Alford and Glady Reid Alford; her daughter Dawn Merritt; and her sisters, Vastire Hanks and Emory Katherine Alford.

She is survived by: her husband Fred Merritt; her children, Julie Skinner (Kenny), Tanya Perkins (Marty) and Brandon Merritt (Kim); her grandchildren, Taylor Carter (Tyler), Jackson Merritt, Kendall Merritt, Konnor Merritt, Michael Perkins, Taylor Perkins (Kristin) and Kaley Smith; her great grandchildren, Colt, Cash, Britton and Beckham; her sister Maryanne Mosley (Charles); and her brother-in-law George Hanks. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
