He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Lee Helmey and Patricia Sessions Helmey. He is survived by: his wife Susan Davidson Helmey of Guyton; his children, Erin Turner of Atlanta, Georgia and Shaun Helmey (Amanda) of Milton, Georgia; his siblings, Gary Helmey (Sherry), Dale Cunningham and Deidra Jeffcoat (Danny); and his grandchildren, Griffin Turner, Grayson Helmey and Kenzie Helmey.
