He was predeceased by : his parents, Harold Elmer Smith and Ruby Evelyn Smith (Lutz). He is survived by : his wife Karen Evola Smith; his son Derek (Ashley); his granddaughter Abigail of Waxhaw, NC; his son Grant (Rachel); his grandson Wyatt of West Point, VA.; and also, Charles, Roger, Elton and George. He is also survived by classmates, friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for contributions to be made to the Creg and Karen Smith Endowed Scholarship at Young Harris College, Young Harris, Georgia.
