It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dora Dean Sweatt Thurmond (Hiram, Georgia), who passed away on March 16, 2024, at the age of 99, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Beecher Sweatt and Gladys Sweatt; her husband Pleasant Marion Thurmond; her daughter-in-law Shirley Thurmond; and her sisters, Virginia Crowe and Carrie Phillips.

She is survived by: her children, Joyce Atcheson (Billy) and Mike Thurmond; her grandchildren, Jeff Atcheson (Pam) and Joey Thurmond (Meghan); her great grandchildren, Brandy Atcheson, Jesse Atcheson, Tyler Thurmond, Joey Saxton (Lauren) and Josh Theobold; and her great great grandchild Sam Saxton. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
