He was predeceased by : his wife Mary Sue Bales; his parents, Walter Bales and Ollie Bales; and his brothers, Gerald Bales and Tim Bales.

He is survived by : his sons, Larry Bales (Marion), Andrew Bales (Amy), Edward Bales and Nathan Bales (Jenny); his siblings, Tom Bales and Sandra Hite; his grandchildren, Tracy Martin, Heather Bales, Keith Bales, Jason Prichard, Jade Bales, Lily Bales, Will Golden and Robert Golden; and his great grandchildren, Natalie Martin and Robert Martin. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
