He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Gilder and Arlene Van Gilder; and his wife Sandra "Fernie" Van Gilder. He is survived by: his children, Rebekah Downing (James) and Richard "Pete" Van Gilder, II (Dawn); his brothers, William Van Gilder (Doris) and James Van Gilder (Polly); his grandchildren, Alexis Phelps (Brett), Richard "Lee" Van Gilder, III (Heather), Jacob Van Gilder and Sydney Whittingslow (Pete); and his great grandchildren, Lily Phelps, Alicia Phelps, Zoey Van Gilder, Phoebe Van Gilder, Campbell Whittingslow, Kinley Van Gilder, Lanier Whittingslow, Nora Van Gilder and Walker Whittingslow.
