She was predeceased by: her parents, James N. Dowling and Caroline Hanchey Dowling; her husband Charles Hamilton Gillis, Jr.; her stepson Charles H. Gillis III; and her siblings, Mary Ruby Roberts, Eva Lyons, Mabel Kagan, Cecil Dowling, Eugene Dowling, Roy Dowling, Lawton Dowling and Willie Dowling.
She is survived by: her stepson Phillip D. Gillis of Hoboken; her stepgrandchildren, Charles H. "Chuck" Gillis IV of Hayesville, NC and Andrea Gillis of Orlando, FL; her daughter-in-law Ann Gillis of Hoboken; her close friend Ronnie Crews (Sue) of Nahunta; her godsons, Jason Crews of Nahunta and Alan Crews (Meghan) of Waverly; and her sisters-in-law, Evelyn Dowling of Hoboken and Jackie Dowling of Garden City. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
