He is survived by: his mother Lena Elizabeth Brooks Merritt; his wife Rachael Merritt; his daughters, Cindy Simmons and Melissa Merritt; and his sisters, Penny Merritt Hansknecht and Joan Hall Merritt. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
