He was loved and cherished by many people including : his mother Mary Bowles Smith; his wife Patricia Crawford Smith; his children, Cora Lee Michelle West (Billy), Teresa Smith (Richard), Tiffany Quinn and Terry Joe Smith; and his siblings, Emily Baker, Eveyln Chambers, Randall Smith, Summie Smith and Bobby Smith. He was also cherished by seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
