He was predeceased by: his wife Carolyn Adams Hughes; his parents, Perry Hughes and Irene Hughes; and his sons, Rodney E. Hughes and Donald Perry "George" Hughes.
He is survived by: his children, Teri French of Bluffton, SC and Fred Michael Hughes of Ridgeland, SC; the mother of his children Barbara Ann Barry; and his stepchildren, Teresa Plitt (Fred) of Valdosta, Bruce Adams (Suzanne) of Guyton and Pamela Roller (Lou) of Old Town, Fla.. He is also survived by numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
