He was predeceased by: his parents, Mattie Emma Sutherland Smith and Walter Siebert Smith; his wife Wensil Allene Lowery; his daughter Debra Sartin Segers; and his sister Francis.
He is survived by: his son Philip "Fritz" Smith (Cathleen) of Kennesaw, Georgia; his grandchildren, Anita Carson (Trevor), Catherine White (Justin), Morgan Smith, Debbie Hayes and Jen Jons (Danny) of Sioux City; and his great grandchildren, Colin, Stephen and Griffin White.
