Nancy Earlyne Davenport Obituary

Mrs. Nancy Earlyne Davenport, age 78, of Kingston, GA, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 11, 2023, at her residence.

Mrs. Davenport was born on October 16, 1945, in Rome, GA, daughter of the late Earl Eugene Mathis and the late Mary Ruth Dobbins Mathis. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Frank Taylor, and by her sister, Janie Whelchel. Mrs. Davenport was a graduate of Pepperell High School and was a proud graduate of Coosa Valley Technical College where she earned her associate degree in business office technology. She worked for many years at Rome Manufacturing, Florida Tile and for a time with the Floyd County Magistrate. Mrs. Davenport was a faithful member of Flint Hill Baptist Church.

Mrs. Davenport loved life. She was a jokester who kept you on your toes anytime she was around. Mrs. Davenport enjoyed her flowers, fishing, and even had her own fishpond. Above all, Mrs. Davenport loved her family. She cherished every moment spent with them and would do any and every thing for them. Mrs. Davenport loved God and is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for eternity.

Survivors include her husband, Robert “Freeman” Davenport, to whom she was married on May 20, 1960; 3 children, Tammy Taylor, Edward Davenport (Teresa), and James Davenport (Tara); 8 grandchildren, Tiffany Horton (G.W.), Ben Davenport (Duncan), Abby Cromer (John), Brian Boozer, Bradley Boozer, Ben Baker (Samantha), Jeff Baker (Jill), and Melissa Baker (Ricky Phillips); 11 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Roger Mathis (Jean); her loving k-9 companion, Dixie Lee; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Flint Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Don Spears and the Rev. Micca Gillespie will officiate and her son, James Davenport, will deliver the eulogy. Mrs. Davenport will lie-in-state from 1pm until service time at Flint Hill Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Chris Johnson officiating the committal services. The family will receive friends from 5pm until 7pm on Friday, December 15, 2023, at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.

Pallbearers are to assemble by 1:30pm on Saturday at Flint Hill Baptist Church and include: Ben Davenport, Brian Boozer, John Cromer, Ben Baker, Duane Davenport, Jeff Baker, Jacob Horton, Dalton Boozer, Bradley Boozer, G.W. Horton, and Spencer Baker. Members of the East Floyd Masonic Lodge #728 will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, has charge of funeral arrangements.
