Doris Virginia McGhee Heard Obituary
Doris Virginia McGhee Heard was born April 6, 1942, the youngest of four children born to the late, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Frank and Mary Liza-Towns McGhee.
She confessed Christ as her Savior and united with the Springfield Baptist Church in Hogansville, Georgia at an early age under the leadership of Pastor Amos Hall where she served by singing in the Choir.
Doris was educated at the West End High School.
In December 1957, she met the love of her life, Walter Heard, Jr whom preceded her in death. They were united in Holy Matrimony on March 28, 1958, and this union was blessed with eight children; seven whom were born including four daughters and three sons; and one son was blended.
Doris was a multi-faceted, multi-talented woman who answered to multiple names that included: Dot by her beloved husband, Mama, Grandma, Di-Doo by her older sister, Auntie, cousin, and friend.
Her skilled talents included a self-taught Cosmetologist, a phenomenal cook, magnificent baker, exemplary home-maker, diligent care-giver, firm disciplinarian, caring mother and steadfast lover of her family.
On Thursday, July 19, 2018, our beloved Doris passed away at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Georgia. In addition to her parents, and her husband, Walter; she was preceded in death by three siblings: Mary "Polly", Georgia Mae, and Norman.
She leaves to treasure her memories, seven children: Sherry Heard, Hogansville, GA; Charles Heard, Walter Jerome (Mary) Heard, Cynthia Heard, Renita Brown, Larry Donnell Huzzie, all of LaGrange, GA; Jancie Heard (Samuel) Alexander; one blended son, Walter Ricks; twenty-four grandchildren; thirty-seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; eight niece and nephews; and a special protector, Lucy the dog; and special friend, Jada.
